Maria Beniaris was born and raised in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. Inspired by her grandmother, a Greek immigrant, and her suburban upbringing, she looks to the perceptions and realities of middle class America for inspiration. Research heavily focuses on the current socio-political climate along with a reflection of her family history to address the culture she creates in.

Beniaris interned in the Adam Selman studio and in Design Development at Thom Browne. She was a national finalist in the CFDA Scholarship Program, was awarded the Perry Ellis Scholarship, and her designs were featured online in Paper Magazine. She has been interviewed and featured in articles for Fashionista and The Chicago Tribune. She was recently honored with the Cornelia Steckl Fellowship for her thesis collection upon graduating the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (BFA 2018.) Recently, she was named a CFDA + member, getting a featured profile on the organization’s website. Beniaris is currently working as an Assistant Designer in Design Development at Thom Browne in New York.
